I conceived the idea for this painting while reading the novel “Uno, Nessuno e Centomila” written by Luigi Pirandello.
I have always been wondering how in our current society we are constantly wearing different masks in order to adapt to diverse occasions and we are striving to convey a specific image of ourselves to the people who surround us.
We are inevitably picking certain clothes, adopting different voice registers or simply sitting down in a particular way based on the context. That encloses multiple facets and therefore dissimilar faces into One single body.
The title of this work ironically references the “Ars Amatoria” by Ovid quotation Fallite fallentes which means Deceive the deceivers, hence implying that we are all lying and playing with our personalities in a World where we, in the first place, have no idea of who we are.
Moreover, the background, inspired by Cubist art, aims at showing reality from different points of view at the same time and within the same space.
